Quick History Overview

2006 - Incorporated, secured investment funding, and researched chemistry of fuels

2008 - Won the NC Green Business Fund for $108,000 - used to research desired species, optimize growth and growth chambers, and began research fuel processes - also made great connections in the industry that have been maintained to this day.

2012 - Dr. Hatch became director of Scientific Research for NSF grant - research into creating growth chamber to grow algae to feed livestock. Showed success in feeding turkeys using algae grown next to the barn.

2015 - Grant funding to work with undergraduates at Dakota Wesleyan University (DWU) - Researched the possibility of using pond algae species as fuel source and ultimately for pond/lake clean up.

2016-17 - Continued research with Chemistry Consultant, Rod Eisenburg, into one of the processes for creating algae. Made good progress into understanding issues with the process.

2020 - Reincorporated in Kansas

2025 - Began building the business in North Carolina with the goal of completing the research and ultimately selling the technologies. Two year business plan in place.

Present Day News

Moved into the Small Business Center April 2026 (see below).

Created website, Patreon account, newsletter/email campaign options, Facebook page, and associated business cards, etc. (links on website - www.organofuels.org)

Created Memo of Understanding with Chemistry Advisor - Rod Eisenberg. Rod very kindly donated multiple instruments that will be key in our laboratory. This saved OrganoFuels close to $30,000. Thank you Thank you - Rod!!

Began working with Business Advisor, Steve Poland. We are focusing on the steps to make OrganoFuels a complete package that might be of interest to investors, partners, and eventually, to someone that might want to purchase the technologies.

Hired an Intern at Warren Wilson to do the analysis of our fuel product to be sure we are getting the chemistry we believe we will get. (see below)

Hired various support consultants, from website/newsletter support to helping put donated instruments together for use.

2026 Research at Warren Wilson

Intern, Lillie Celeste Davis, from Warren Wilson College, is becoming an expert on the Gas Chromatograph Mass Spectrometer (GCMS). This will be used to determine the chemical content of the fuels we create. Unlike baking a pie that we can see, taste, and smell, chemistry research requires seeing things through complicated instruments. Langdon Martin is the Chemistry Professor at Warren Wilson, and he has very kindly spent hours teaching Lillie Celeste how to make samples, run the instrument, and keep a valid notebook. OrganoFuels is so grateful to Lillie, Langdon, and Warren Wilson for being part of the team that is making Biogasoline possible.

2026 Office at Asheville Buncombe Technical Community College Small Business Center

This is the view out my office window in the spring. Love the pink dogwoods.

The Small Business Center (SBC) is an ideal place for a start up business. I moved into an office there in April 2026. I am able to get wonderful business support from Steve Poland, who I worked with in 2007-2010 when I was here before. The rent is very reasonable, and I have access to the NC Bionetwork Laboratory. They have equipment and hood space I will be renting until I have my own lab space - potentially to open later this year. (Fingers crossed)
